Tourist visas - options for Austrian citizens

Please note: If you obtain an electronic visa from the internet, your travel agent or airline (see below), you will not receive a visa label. The visa is stored electronically.

i) Option 1: apply for an ETA via your travel agent or airline (for stays of up to 3 months only)

If you wish to remain in Australia as a visitor for periods of stay of 3 months or less, you can apply via your travel agent or airline for an ETA - Electronic Travel Authority.

ii) Option 2: apply for an eVisitor via the internet - for stays of up to 3 months only

From 27 October 2008, you can use the eVisitor service if you want to apply online (on the internet) to stay in Australia for up to 3 months. With an eVisitor you can visit Australia on multiple occasions in the 12 months immediately after the eVisitor is granted.

For more information, see:  About eVisitor
To make an online application, see: Online Applications - eVisitor
We recommend that you apply at least 2 weeks before you plan to travel to Australia.

Data entry note: If you have an Austrian passport with a passport number in the format 'A 1234567 8', when you enter your passport number in the eVisitor system, you should leave out the last digit, ie enter only 'A1234567'.

Please note that eVisitor applications are processed in Australia, not at the Australian Embassy Vienna. After you have made your application, you can check its status using the reference number given to you during the application process. See: E-business Systems - Query Application Status
if you have any technical problems with your eVisitor application, you can send an email request for assistance to eVisitor.Helpdesk@immi.gov.au

iii) Option 3: apply for an electronic Tourist visa (e676) via the internet - for stays of up to 12 months

We recommend that you apply at least 2 weeks before you plan to travel to Australia.

Note: There is no application fee for EU nationals for an online Tourist visa (visa subclass e676) for a stay of up to 3 months. A fee applies for applications for stays of more than 3 months.

Data entry note: If you have an Austrian passport with a passport number in the format 'A 1234567 8', when you enter your passport number in the e676 system, you should leave out the last digit, ie enter only 'A1234567'.
