Tourist visas - options for Austrian citizens
Please note: If you obtain an electronic visa from the internet, your travel agent or airline (see below), you will not receive a visa label. The visa is stored electronically.
i) Option 1: apply for an ETA via your travel agent or airline - for stays of up to 3 months only
If you wish to remain in Australia as a visitor for periods of stay of 3 months or less, you can apply via your travel agent or airline for an ETA - Electronic Travel Authority.
ii) Option 2: apply for an eVisitor via the internet - for stays of up to 3 months only
An eVisitor is an electronically stored authority for travel to Australia. With a valid eVisitor, you can stay in Australia for up to three months on each visit within a 12 month period from the date of grant of the eVisitor. You can apply for eVisitor online (on the internet).
For more information, see: About eVisitor
To make an online application, see: Online Applications - eVisitor
*We recommend that you apply at least 2 weeks before you plan to travel to Australia.*
Data entry note: If you have an Austrian passport with a passport number in the format 'A 1234567 8', when you enter your passport number in the eVisitor system, you should leave out the last digit, ie enter only 'A1234567'.
Please note that eVisitor applications are processed in Australia, not at the Australian Embassy Vienna. After you have made your application, you can check its status using the transaction reference number (TRN) given to you during the application process. See: E-business Systems - Query Application Status
if you have any technical problems with your eVisitor application, you can send an email request for assistance to eVisitor.Helpdesk@immi.gov.au
iii) Option 3: apply for an electronic Tourist visa (e676) via the internet - for stays of up to 12 months
For a stay in Australia of up to 12 months, you can apply for an e676 visa online (on the internet) at: Online Applications - e676 Tourist Visa
*We recommend that you apply at least 2 weeks before you plan to travel to Australia.*
Note: There is no application fee for EU nationals for an online Tourist visa (visa subclass e676) for a stay of up to 3 months. A fee applies for applications for stays of more than 3 months.
Data entry note: If you have an Austrian passport with a passport number in the format 'A 1234567 8', when you enter your passport number in the e676 system, you should leave out the last digit, ie enter only 'A1234567'.
e676 visa applications are processed in Australia, not at the Australian Embassy Vienna. After you have made an application, you can check its status using the transaction reference number (TRN) given to you during the application process. See: E-business Systems - Query Application Status

Please note that if you are 75 years of age or older, the Australian office processing your online visa application may request you to undertake an Aged Visitor Health Check.
You can download the required form at: Proforma for offshore applicants.
iii) Option 4: make a paper application at the Australian Embassy
If you are unable to complete an internet/online application, please follow the instructions for lodging a tourist visa application at Tourist visas – instructions for other nationalities.
*Please note that a fee is payable for making a paper Tourist visa application, regardless of the length of stay in Australia.*
