Temporary Residence Visas
Who is this visa for?
Temporary Residence visas allow the temporary stay in Australia of people who can contribute to the economic, cultural and social development of the Australian community. Detailed information about these visas is available from the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) website.

How to apply
Applications for the visas in the Visa Types list below may be made at the Australian Embassy Vienna.
Note: Other temporary residence visas can only be applied for in Australia. See: Temporary Visas Processed in Australia
General information about how to apply for visas in Vienna is available at: Applying for visas. To make an application for any of the visas listed below, please provide the documents in the Document Checklist below. Applications may be made by mail/courier or in person with a lodgement appointment. See: Contact us. Please note that if you choose to apply in person we may not be able to make a decision on your application the same day.
Please note that some temporary residence visas require approved sponsorship from an employer or other organisation in Australia which must be obtained before a visa can be granted. Please read the application form and website information carefully to determine whether this applies to your application.

- Domestic Worker (Diplomatic/Consular) Visa (Subclass 426)
- Domestic Worker (Executive) Visa (Subclass 427)
- Educational visa (Subclass 418)

a recent passport photograph of all applicants

a signed valid international passport. Please ensure that there is at least one page available for a visa label.

evidence of approved sponsorship (from DIAC in Australia) if required for the type of visa for which you are applying

if you have included a child under 18 years of age in your application and any person with custody of the child (such as the other parent) is not travelling with the child, please see Additional requirements for persons under 18 years

if you are over 16 years of age and your proposed stay exceeds 12 months, you are required to provide a police clearance certificate for each country where you have lived for 12 months or more (in total) in the past 10 years (must be original certificate).

please attach to your application documents which explain why you are applying for the particular visa. For example, if applying for a sport visa, evidence of participation in international competitions; if applying for a visiting academic visa, evidence of your qualifications and academic employment; and if applying for a media & film staff visa, evidence of work in this field and similar previous travel.
Health Requirements
In some circumstances you may be required to undertake a medical examination. Our office will advise you if you need an examination after we have received your application. More information is available at: Medical Requirements

It is important to note that processing times can vary according to individual circumstances. Applicants are therefore advised to lodge applications well in advance of planned travel to Australia.
